Stories and Highlights can contain similar photos and videos, but they serve different purposes. A Story is temporary and designed for what is happening now. A Highlight is a collection chosen by the profile owner to remain accessible from the profile for longer.

Stories are temporary

A Story appears in the active Story tray and normally lasts for 24 hours. Creators use Stories for everyday updates, announcements, behind-the-scenes moments, questions, links, and other timely material.

Every item has its own publication and expiry time. The creator can remove it early, restrict who sees it, or allow it to enter their private archive after the active window ends.

Highlights are curated

Highlights appear as named collections on a profile. The owner chooses a cover, title, and which Stories belong in each collection. Common examples include travel destinations, product information, frequently asked questions, recipes, events, and portfolios.

A Highlight does not have the normal 24-hour expiry. It remains available until the creator edits or deletes it, makes the account private, or removes the underlying material.

The media format may look the same, but discovery and lifespan differ. Stories prioritize recency. Highlights prioritize organization and ongoing usefulness.

What public viewers can access

For a public account, currently active Stories and public Highlights may be retrievable without signing in. Availability is not guaranteed: platform limits, media expiry, regional rules, or changes made by the owner can affect results.
